Fraudsters Used Card Over Six Days To Shop At Various Places
Ahmedabad: Online fraudsters tapped into the debit card account of Ranjankumar Bhagwat, a resident of Bhaikakanagar. They stole Rs 26,000 from his debit card and used it for shopping at various multiplexes and malls over a period of one week. Bhagwat, a resident of Alishan Apartments, the owner of the card, has lodged a complaint with Vastrapur police for the same. According to police officials, Bhagwat had lost his wallet on SG Highway at some place while he was driving his vehicle to reach home on May 6 afternoon. Bhagwat tried to locate his wallet but did not succeed in his attempts. “However, as he was busy with his work, he could go to his private bank only on May 12 and was in for a shock. He came to know that Rs 26,000 have been withdrawn from his account. When he picked up a fight, the bank officials showed him how his debit card had been used for a shopping spree. He then told them that his card had got lost,” said the official. When Bhagwat asked for a list, the bank officials handed him a list comprising prominent shopping malls, home appliances and multiplexes where his card was used. Bhagwat then blocked his card and lodged a complaint with the Vastrapur police station. “As it is a physical theft of the card and the purchases made with Bhagwat’s signature, it is difficult to trace the culprit. However, we will question the shopping mall staff about the identification proof the fraudster used. It will show us the links in the case,” said VM Jani, inspector of Vastrapur police station.
