The ruling Grand National Party (GNP) said its Web site was attacked by hackers at 3 a.m., Sunday and was closed all day long.
It said it was reconstructing the Web site banners and some bulletin sections hacked by Internet users who were apparently angry about the government's decision to resume American beef imports, according to the ruling party.
It repaired the website shortly after the hacking but the party decided to leave it closed until Monday morning, to preserve evidence of the hacking.
`Who hacked our home page has not been figured out as yet,'' party official Kim Dae-won said. The hacking took place at dawn when police were arresting protesters at candlelit vigils. Its homepage showed the image of a cat catching a rat appeared briefly. President Lee Myung-bak is nicknamed ``rat'' among Internet users.
GNP requested the National Police Agency to investigate the case.
