Interior ministers of western Mediterranean, members of the 5 +5 group, announced that they have reached a common strategy in the fight against terrorism, which includes the strengthening of cooperation between law enforcement, exchange of information related to terrorist activities, coordination of efforts in the fight against cyber-terrorism and cyber-crime, and the fight against money laundering and drug trafficking.

Interior ministers of the group are committed at their 13th congress held in the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott, to facilitate the free movement of persons within the legal framework, in order to combat illegal migration, in addition to the study of a project that includes a network of communication between the security services involved in maritime and port security. The Interior Minister Nourredine Yazid Zerhouni insisted at the congress on the need to consider mechanisms to cope with the proliferation of web sites that call for terrorism and extremism. He also mentioned the development of a common plan of communication, in order to respond to the psychological warfare carried out by terrorist groups. Zerhouni has called in this context to involve the media in the fight against terrorism, indicating that the Algerian experience has shown that the treatment is not only security. Zerhouni assured that Algeria has earmarked more than 4 billion euros in its fight against terrorism and organized crime.

The work also saw the participation of Interior Ministers of Tunisia, Morocco, Libya, Mauritania, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Malta.
