4 arrested in three cheating cases

Chennai: The police have arrested four persons in connection with three separate cheating incidents involving crores of rupees since Tuesday. In one of the incidents, the central crime branch arrested R Palaniappan (36) of Ottery and C Kanagasabapathy (42) of Kodambakkam for preparing fake documents for property worth Rs 1 crore in Ram Nagar near Peravallur. Police said the accused had also forged the victim Soundararajan’s (60) signatures of Oorapakkam. Based on the complaint of Soundararajan, a retired railway employee, the police registered a case and arrested the duo. They were later produced before the court and remanded in prison. Further investigations are on. In another incident, Kadir Mohammad, partner of Max Value Housing in Alwarpet, had bought a property in Canal Bank road in Adyar from one Karuppiah for Rs 82 lakh. But, Karuppiah had already pledged the property by submitting the original documents to Allahabad Bank and got Rs 1.30 crore. Later, he prepared forged document for the property with the help of his accomplice, Srinivasan. The duo had then sold the property to Mohammad for Rs 82 lakh. The police have arrested the duo. In a third incident, the police arrested PV Santhanam alias Santhanakrishnan of Kolathur for preparing fake documents for a property worth Rs 90 lakh in Varadharajapuram in Chromepet. According to Kamakoti, the complainant, Santhanam claimed himself as the legal heir of her husband Govindaraja Mudaliyar and claimed ownership of the property. The police arrested Santhanam and remanded him in custody after producing him before a court.
